Non-Ultra Linear PP 9 pin power tube

I built a test mono block and was going to use a UL PP OT with EL84s, but I don't have a UL OT that's small enough to fit this chassis and I already have a pair of 9 pin output tube sockets fitted. Is there another 9 pin output tube that I can use that doesn't need a UL transformer? I have a decent selection of TV/Radio tubes to pick from and thought about using the 6AQ5 but that's a 7 pin and my socket holes are too big for those. No room on the box to put 8 pin octals either, so I'm in a bit of a quandry.

Thoughts?

Hi,

The EL84 is a great sounding tube, even in pentode mode. I would only suggest increasing the feedback to smooth things out a bit.

There are ways of creating an electronic UL tap fron a non-UL transformer, but isn't for the feint of heart in getting it setup correctly.

Cheers!

I don't mind a challenge, do you have more info on that?

Yes!

I did some work with pseudo-UL here:

Member T3sl4 covers some great points on the voltage divider.

Cheers!
