Is this the end of the world as we know it (???)

Doc Bottlehead has now designed and made available a 4WPC Battery powered Class D amplifier kit, which he has named "Quicksand" [:)

http://bottlehead.com/product/quicksand ... -amplifier, 12 C cells, 18VDC.

The same TPA3122 chip can deliver 15WPC when operated with 28VDC "B+"

Basically, a 4WPC solid state "SeX amp"

This apparently uses the 20 pin DIP TPA3122 Class D amplifier IC, data sheet here:

Those Lepai Class D amps have taken the world by storm for sure! I haven't been impressed with my chip amp tests in the past, but I'll probably experiment in the future. I like that these little Class D amps are getting the next generation of audio enthusiasts closer to stereo component systems, which for a short time I feared might be history. The millennials have got the taste for hifi headphones, DIY speakers and now real power amps.

Here's a TPA3123 50Wx2 amp for $10.49. I think it's bridged (2 chips per channel.)

These are fine for soundcard amps, but they leave a bit to be desired as your main hi-fi amp. I wonder what the Bottlehead amp sounds like?
