Hi, a friend of mine has asked me to build him a headphone amp. Can anyone recommend a good but not overly complicated or too expensive circuit to follow? I had a look round the net but there seems to be several ways round this and want something that's going to work.
I've completed three amps now, a fifty watt guitar amp and 100w and 200 w bass amps so no stranger to putting stuff together, but looking forward to a smaller project.
Cheers Just

While not a available as a kit, the $279 O2+DA combo headphone amp available from JDSlabs.com is highly recommended. It was designed by the mysterious NwAvGuy who disappeared about a year or so ago. The schematic is available, but it's not a DIY project.

The amp is solid-state and works great playing digital music from a PC's UPS output playing CDs, etc. It is a combination D-A converter and an amp. I have one.

For $79, you can buy just the O2 headphone amp with only an analog input (no D-A converter).

Browse around the Tubecad / Glassware website.
John (Broskie) is a headphone fan and has published a lot of headphone amp designs, some of which can be purchased as a kit.
Just one example (To suit 300 Ohm Headhones):

Perhaps look at his available hardware page for some options and then you can back track to teh blog which talks about the design.

This one is a simple, straightforward design, and very good sounding:

The design is similar though somewhat more basic, to that used in the Bottlehead "Crack" headphone amp.

I use mine with Sennheiser 600 'phones, and the sound quality is wonderful [:)

Neither design is truly suitable for low impedance (under 300 ohms) headphones, in spite what the article claims,

those may require more power and a suitable output impedance.
