RH-84 Intergrated

Postby TerrySmith » Sun Sep 23, 2012 3:53 pm

Here's an RH-84 project I've been working on for some time. Actually if I would have waited another couple of weeks this would be a Budgie SE post. ;)

Anyway it uses the simpler revised RH circuit and a simple gain stage ahead of the RH. Transformers are Edcor GXSE10-8-5K opts and a Antek AS-05T280 toroid power transformer hidden under a 4" sewer pipe cap. Chassis in a Par-metal 12x8x2 flipped upside down and vent holes deleted in bottom plate, then a custom front panel from FPE.

The tubes I used are all plinkers, 6BQ7 for the preamp, 6BK7B for the VA and 29GK6 outputs with their own filament transformer. Since the PT has no center tap a 6AX5 and two UF4007 is the B+ rectifiers.

Nicely done! I've used 6GK6s and 16GK6s, not yet tried the 29GK6s, will haveto find some to experiment with. I have LOTs of 6BK7Bs and 6BQ7s in the toob stash :))

I have a Budgie SE in progress, right now, the long lead time items are the Edcor trannies. I have everything else on hand. [:)

Maybe I'll gin up another plinkertron or two, while I'm waiting, waiting, waiting....... :/

Nice and clean. Nice planning for short connections. I'm still partial to that red AA-151 you did.
Headed for Tishomingo to sing in a can...

Placed my first order to Edcor Friday for 2 GXSE10-8-5K. I hope they made a few for the shelf after Terry's order since it seems to be a hot item in these here parts of DIYLand.

how does the Antek AS-05T280 hold up? does it get warm? I was looking for a pt for a RH84 and this interests me. I am planning on using actual EL84's though.
Please let me know
Nice build
