Other than preserving appearances, is there any benefit to installing vintage resistors?

Those were common 40-50 years ago, and there is nothing wrong with using them, but modern resistors are just as good, and if you get the non-inductive, or the Dale "heatsink" type resistors in the chassis mountable aluminum body, they'd be as goood or perhaps even better.

If you want to preserve a 1950s look, go with the oldies "ohmites".

BTW, this style of WW power resistor still exists, and there is always the possibility that these on E-bay aren-t actually the vintage ones...

I'd definitely avoid "vintage"electrolytic caps, however.... Even if they can be re-formed, they're still ticking "time bombs"... As a friend of mine, Pete used to say, Vintage NOS electrolytics are kinda like "Vintage NOS cans of beer"... Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_04 Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_09 :o Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_11
